Macro Macro

This is such a cool species, Malaclemys terrapin macrospilota, and one found where I live. It's really cool to see these in the wild and I actually have three species directly east, west, and south of me. Florida is a amazing place to live for turtles!

Nice pics! Just for my sake: do you live far from the Everglades or are you quite near to them?

It takes me 5 inutes to be in the Everglades. I was born and raised in the glades, airboats a fishing, it's made up a lot of time.

Aaaaahh the envy.. have you ever found a gator in your garden?

I have seen lots of cool things in the Everglades. My wife is from Virginia and thinks there's not much to it, but you have to travel through it to find out just how beautiful and alive it is. I have much better pics and will put together a post about this wonderful place, later on.






Crocodylus acutus, they were in the middle of a dirt road going towards Bear lake in the southern Glades, it's the farthest you can drive south in the park before hitting flamingo and saltwater marsh and Florida Bay. There are a lot of crocodiles there, it's awesome! I was looking for Crotalus and these guys were in puddles, completely fat and full of osteopilus septentrionalis.

Thats funny, I consider the tarpon in my picture a baby. 100lbs and over is very common, I caught one over 100lbs later that day. This is the fishing Capitol of the world, please let me know if you ever come, we will go out fishing.






in central florida, the fresh water rivers are amazing. I like to just swim/float down the whole way, it's crystal clear and perfect. There is so many turtles here, it's crazy! There is also a lot of Manatees, they seek the warm waterfrom the springs, they stay a constant 74 degrees year round, that feed the rivers and move in during the winter. This is blue spring, not farm from my house. I have seen over 200 at one time in this spring. I never seem to have a camera when I'm swimming and they show up. I'm working on that...

No way, you're very lucky to be able to see such beauties right in your "front garden".. I must admit I'm more interested in marime mammals than in turtles and being able to see some manatees this near to your house is really a dream.. please, pay attention with your motorboat when you see them
